What does LawDepot do?

As of October 28, 2026, LawDepot says its builder asks fill-in-the-blank questions, then lets you personalize, download, and print a document. Its homepage lists documents for estate planning, real estate, business, family, financial, and signing tasks. The service says many documents can be created in 5–10 minutes.

LawDepot says it is not a law firm and does not create a solicitor-client relationship. Its terms describe document access as a free trial, subscription, or one-time purchase; they also say access is licensed for the country selected when you buy.

That makes the service a better fit when you have a straightforward task and understand the choices you are making. If a notice gives you a deadline, start by recording the date, court, method of service, and proof you received; the legal deadline organizer can help you keep those details together.

Are LawDepot documents legal?

A document’s effect depends on the document, your state, the facts, and how it is completed and signed. For example, California Probate Code section 6240’s statutory will form directs the maker to read the whole will, fill in the blanks without adding or crossing out language, date and sign it, and have two witnesses sign it.

State rules matter just as much for a power of attorney. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s fiduciary guidance explains that a person who accepts that role must act in the other person’s best interest, manage property carefully, keep it separate, and keep complete records. Read the selected form closely before naming someone with that responsibility; our power of attorney guide explains the choices to make first.

How much does LawDepot cost?

These are the prices on LawDepot’s pricing page as of October 28, 2026; check the checkout for today’s price and the exact renewal disclosure.

Option Listed price What it includes
Free 7-day trial subscription Free for one week; then $49 monthly Unlimited access to documents during the subscription
One-year Pro subscription $155.88 annually Unlimited document access; annual renewal
Single document license $7.50–$119 One document, with price depending on the document
Real estate Essentials $35 monthly or $107.88 annually Unlimited real-estate category access
Estate planning Essentials $35 monthly or $107.88 annually Unlimited estate-planning category access
Business Essentials $45 monthly or $131.88 annually Unlimited business category access

“Free” means the seven-day trial, not unlimited free access. LawDepot’s terms say a credit card is required for product access and that a trial becomes chargeable if it is not cancelled before its stated period ends.

Is LawDepot easy to cancel?

LawDepot’s pricing page says you can cancel any time. Its U.S. terms say you may end a license using the order page, your account area, or the help documentation, so use the route shown with the plan you chose and save the confirmation.

For customer service, LawDepot lists 1-855-231-8424, live chat, a Help Center, and email support. Its U.S. pages list phone availability Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. ET. If you are writing a review after a billing issue, include the plan name, order date, amount, cancellation date, and confirmation reference so the facts are easy to follow.

Is LawDepot legit, and what should you check?

LawDepot identifies Sequiter Inc. as the owner of the LawDepot trade name and websites, and its terms were last modified September 10, 2026. The company says it has provided DIY legal documents since 2002 and says it is trusted in all 50 states; treat those as the company’s own statements when deciding whether the service fits your job.

Before paying, check these points:

  • Select the correct state and document type.
  • Read the trial, recurring-charge, and cancellation terms shown at checkout.
  • Confirm the signing, witnessing, notarization, filing, or service rules for your court or agency.
  • Keep the completed document and your purchase records.
  • Use the online legal document scams checklist if a look-alike site, unexpected fee, or unfamiliar contact raises questions.

LawDepot or a lawyer: which is better for your task?

There is no single best online legal service for every legal task. A document builder can be useful when you have settled the choices and need a form prepared consistently. A lawyer can be worth paying for when the document needs tailored terms, people may disagree about it, property or business interests are involved, or a court filing, hearing, or deadline is already in play.

The free route belongs in the comparison. USA.gov’s legal-aid directory points people to free and low-cost help by state, including Legal Services Corporation providers, LawHelp.org, law-school pro bono programs, and ABA Free Legal Answers for eligible questions. The Legal Services Corporation funds 129 independent nonprofit legal-aid organizations across every state, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories for people with low incomes.

For a comparison such as LegalZoom versus LawDepot, put the exact document first, then compare the current checkout price, renewal terms, state coverage, and whether the plan includes access to a licensed attorney. LawDepot’s pages describe document preparation and information; its privacy policy says its Legal Consultation service is provided through Martindale-Nolo, which handles the information you provide for that consultation.

Comparing LawDepot with other options

Free court self-help, legal aid and other online legal services are compared side by side in the online legal services guide, so you can weigh cost and the kind of help each option gives before you choose.

What about wills and estate documents?

Estate documents deserve an extra state-specific check. The IRS estate-tax overview describes a gross estate as property and certain interests owned at death, including cash, securities, real estate, insurance, trusts, annuities, business interests, and other assets. California’s court self-help center also provides information and forms for wills, estates, advance care planning, and property transfers after death.

If you are creating a will, make your next step small: choose your state, identify the property and people the document must cover, then confirm the signing rules before using it.
